11. HEALTH MANAGEMENT
1) POLICY
The company has adopted a policy for healthy and safe working practices. Under this policy, the company shall endeavor the environment and ensure that the activities of the organization shall not contribute to any harm to the environment.
2) PURPOSE
To bring awareness of the health, safety and environment protection to all the employees, to highlight the benefits of good health, safe workings practices, and a better environment.
3) IMPACT OF POLICY
HSE policy if adopted by the organization will ensure to boost the efficiency and performance of the staff. It will also increase the morale of the employees and bring about a healthy and happy atmosphere within the organization.
4) HSE MANAGEMENT
- Project Engineer will be the safety officer of the project. He will conduct periodical safety meetings and ensure that all the staff at their individual levels are properly trained to perform their duties, complying in the HSE standards of the company
- The supervisor for the project shall conduct toolbox meetings on a duty basis. All the employees at their individual level shall be sent for HSE training.
- The company shall follow the procedure for submitting HSE returns periodically and prepare journey management plans whenever the company representatives are required to travel a long distance. All accidents or LTI’s shall be reported to the concerned authorities and safety records may be maintained.
- Safety Officer shall organize a safety awareness program and identify the possible hazards and address these in the periodical meetings.
- HSE shall be introduced at various levels in the company i.e., senior management, middle manager and supervisory levels.
5) WORK PERMITS
All breakdown and maintenance works, especially the works to be carried out in critical areas, the company supervisor shall apply for work permits. The permit shall indicate the nature of work to be carried out, duration of the work and any special precaution/ safety measure required.
6) PERSONAL PROTECTION
The workers shall at all the time wear safety protection like overhauls, Safety shoes, hard hats, and hard gloves. As per the nature of the work involved, additional protection like safety goggles, facemask, etc., shall be used. Proper and safe hand tools and equipment shall be used to avoid anybody injury First Aid kits and fire extinguishers shall always be made readily available on the site to combat any emergencies. The project engineer/service supervisor shall carry out supervise the inspection and ensure that the above regulation is strictly observed.
7) HAZARDOUS MATERIAL
Any hazardous material like chemical & refrigerants shall be stored and handled in a safe manner. Due care shall be taken while transporting such hazardous material. Proper training hall be imported for safe usage and disposal of such material.
8) ROAD TRANSPORT SAFETY
All vehicles that are used on the contract shall be as per ROAD safety specifications. The drivers shall be trained in safety and shall follow the regulation strictly. All passengers traveling in the vehicles shall be the responsibility of the driver for all long journeys, a journey management plan shall be prepared prior to the commencement of the journey. The driver shall take a short break after every hour of the journey. The driver shall commence the journey only if he is fully fit. In case any break down of the vehicle the concerned authority shall be immediately intimated. Only in case of emergencies night driving should be undertaken. Proper equipment shall be utilized for touring a vehicle that has a breakdown. Necessary precautions like proper indication, piloting shall be utilized. Necessary precaution shall be taken while loading and unloading of equipment and other material. Dangerous stacking shall be avoided. The unit and material shall be secure firmly. So that they do not cause any hindrance to the driver, the material stacks shall not impair the visibility of the driver.
9) CAMP OFFICES & STORAGE AREA.
The camps, offices and storage area shall be kept neat and tidy. Free space shall be maintained for unhindered movement of material and personnel. Safety posters shall be displayed in a prominent location. To remind everyone of the importance of safe working practice. Fire extinguishers and sand buckets shall be located at convenient locations. Assembly point shall be clearly marked in case of fire emergencies. Special attention shall be paid for the electrical installation at the office and storage yards. There shall be no loose joints and proper earthling shall be provided for all the equipment.
10) WORKSHOP/INDUSTRIAL SAFETY
All the work shall be carried out with utmost diligence & observing the highest safety standards. All the hand tools and equipment used shall be of good quality and meet the safety specification. Special precautions shall be taken with electrical tools and welding/brazing equipment.
- Lifting operations and working at heights shall also be given special attention.
- Proper signboards shall be displayed when the operation is undertaken.
- All the fixed equipment shall be properly secured to prevent vibration and suitable earthing be provided.
- Necessary steps are taken to ensure that chemical vapors or refrigerant vapors are not emitted to the atmosphere. Whenever possible we shall use equipment to recover the refrigerant or other residues from the units and the recovered residue shall be disposed of suitably. The company shall make every effort to protect the greenery and the trees. Wherever possible, new plantations shall be encouraged to keep the area hygienic and pollution-free. Every precaution shall be taken to control the noise level. This will be done to prevent disturbance to others as well as protect the workers from possible hearing impairment.
11) HEALTH MANAGEMENT
Every effort shall be made to the upkeep of the health standard in the workplace in the camp accommodation. Timely peat control, fumigation shall be carried out to prevent the breeding of insects. The kitchen and the dining hall shall be kept clear and well ventilated. Proper waste disposal and free flow of foul drain be ensured. Healthy recreation activities shall be encouraged among the workers. Periodical medical examination shall be conducted to ensure that the workers are healthy and are fit to perform their duties. Ensure that first aid medicine is available in the camp and in the workshop. Project engineer/safety officer shall be suitably trained to handle fire emergencies to offer first aid assistance to the workers and conduct emergency fire drills and safety training to his staff. In short, we shall strive to achieve accident-free work performance
